Teamwork and Learning for Days

Greetings, dear friends! We are more than halfway through September - doesn't time fly? 

Today's meeting commenced with an icebreaker that I led. Everyone was divided into two teams which then received different pieces of information, but had the same end goal. In addition, they were limited in their means of communication. For example, one group could only speak four syllables at a time! It was interesting to watch the interactions between the two groups! Through the activity, we were reminded that many a time we feel like others are against us when what is really happening is that we don't have the right perspective of things. One way to overcome that is to be willing to make compromises to achieve a common goal.

We were then led in a thought-provoking devotional thought by Speaker Ian, who shared with us the words of Maya Angelou, "...people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

As communicators for Christ, we need to build meaningful connections with those around us through our attitudes, words, and conduct. Ian challenged us to intentionally encourage three people in our lives this week. If you're reading this, I'd like to invite you to do the same!

Today's meeting was slightly different- we had some exciting plans! 

Oh, but before that, we must never forget- the Word From Dad session! Sound unfamiliar? Well, this chapter year, we have transitioned from having the Word From Sponsor session to the Word From Dad, and I must say it's been lovely having the dads in our chapter be even more involved, because they are wonderful role models! 

Coach Choong Ming shared with us about how as leaders we are to be the example, not be entitled to being followed. It involves being humble, especially when mistakes have been made. It is important for us to have the right attitudes, words, and actions that show character, love, and authenticity from the inside, in order to be a Godly leader.

In addition, Coach Joseph shared with us how a leader needs to manage a project by being sensitive and connected to his team members by managing the energy of the team to ensure their dedication to its cause.

And now, for the extraordinary part of today's meeting! We packed up early and headed to our respective cars!

Wait, you may ask. Why is that exciting? 

Well, today was our filming day for the video that we're working on! We drove to a nearby park, but it began raining, so we got to have tea and some discussions before filming!

Toe to Toe (September 10, 2017)

Hello there, and welcome to our ICC chapter meeting! It was great to finally have our first official meeting of the chapter year, and I'm excited for what's to come in the next few months! After welcoming the chapter, I passed the time over to speaker Jonique, who led us in an interesting icebreaker called "Toe to Toe." In this activity, each person would pair up with another person, and would have to ask each other certain questions. First we paired up by touching toes, then we changed partners and paired up by touching elbows, then we changed partners again and went back to back with him/her. Finally, we went toe to toe with our toe partners, while touching elbows with our elbow partners and going back to back with our back to back partners. This activity not only tested our flexibility, but also helped us get to know our fellow chapter members better.

Speaker Jern Ling then shared with us the importance of doing the GOOP - showing respect for God, others, ourselves, and property. Obeying God's Word, treating others well, and cleaning up after ourselves are all part of doing the GOOP. We need to remember that our behaviour off the platform speaks louder than anything we could say on it.

After that short devotion, Coach Daniel reminded us ahead of the 4:12 conference that our lives should be a testimony to those around us - a sort of "display unit," showing others how ICC has impacted our lives.

The YSG and YCC teaching sessions were led by speakers Ian and Eunice, respectively. In the YSG teaching session, we reviewed the familiar six-step formula to public speaking - P3+R3=C3.

"Meanwhile, in the YCC world, we were having the time of our lives practicing impromptu introduction and the basics of public speaking through fun group-bonding activities! We practiced the 3-second rule, poise, and learned more about each other in the process! I could not have asked for a better group of engaging YCCers! Can't wait for my next round of YCC teaching!" -Eunice

We've Only Just Begun...Again! (August 26, 2017 Kickoff!)

Without a doubt we all agree it's been a while! We've struggled through exams, school projects, and activities these past few months. And finally, we meet again!

Ladies and gentlemen, it has begun!!

Welcome to ICC Words A.L.I.V.E 2017-2018!

In the comfort of the all too familiar Kota Kemuning HQ, we began our new year with hope and anticipation!

The most important factor of a team is this one single thing: a vision. Beginning our meeting, Coach Joseph rightfully took the time to set our purpose as a chapter straight. We purposed as a chapter to take OWNERSHIP of our actions, set aside our own desires for the good of the group, and to set our eyes on Jesus. A profound illustration of setting our eyes on the right target is the story of Matt Emmons which Coach Joseph shared with us! He had scored full points on his last round of sharpshooting in the Olympics 2004, but, to his utter dismay, had hit another lane's target!

This is a vivid reminder for us to get our goal straight with God and pursue His will for our chapter and not our individual desires. After all, we may have our own wants and visions, but the only vision that really matters is God's supreme plan!

Another vital highlight of our kickoff meeting was an arrangement that will forever change the course of our new chapter year.....

Announcing... the Appointment of the All-New Student Leadership Team 2017-2018!!!

We were so honored to have this wonderful opportunity to serve under the Sponsor and Assistant Sponsor for this new year! One by one, Coach Joseph declared our respective roles as follows...

Toh Jern Ling- Chapter Coordinator
Jonique Chan- Assistant Chapter Coordinator
Eunice Tan- Media Historian

Each of us then took about 1-2 minutes to share with the chapter our three-point action plan for the year!

Undoubtedly, we thank the Lord for teaching us more about servant leadership through our appointment as SLs! Praise be to God for the helpful and essential mentoring we've received from our Sponsor and Assistant Sponsor team! It is because of people like them that we've gone this far!

Coach Joseph also announced the roles of our ex-SLs (now GSLC and ASLC!), Charis and Jern Yoong, in our chapter! Now that they have passed the stage of student leadership, they will be taking on a role of guiding the younger, up and coming ones in our chapter! 

We can't wait to see what God has in store for all of us in our different roles!

As the 4:12 Conference draws nearer and nearer, we ended the meeting with a discussion led by Coach Michelle about the necessary logistics and promo plans for the conference!
