"The Peaceful Majority Are Irrelevant"

Written by Ranen Chan

Our 10th ICC Chapter meeting opened with ‘Associations’, an interesting word game which speaker Jern Yoong led us in. One person begins the game by saying a word and the person to his right must say another word related to the previous word. If he’s unable to think of a word within 5 seconds, he’s out. If the word isn’t related to the other word, he is also out! We really had to think on our feet!

Nathanael, who was tongue-tied at the wrong moment, was 'out,' and so he was made to entertain us by singing ‘Do Re Mi’ from the musical ‘The Sound of Music.’

Coach Joseph showed us a video that illustrated the importance of speaking up for our belief. He then further explained that the people who are the loudest (the radicals or the righteous few) will shape the culture. When there are issues that need to be challenged and the majority keeps quiet, they will eventually be silenced and become irrelevant. As communicators for Christ, we should articulate our faith with courage.

After that Jaeriel and Jaedon shared about their experience in ‘Journey to the Heart’ (a 10-day IBLP program to help young people discover the true person of God) and the impact it had on their lives.

Coach Alfred then explained the new speech evaluation system. At every meeting there will be two main coaches who would be using the new evaluation sheet and give immediate feedback after each speaker has given his/her presentation. At this meeting, Coach Wai Hong and Coach Michelle were the main coaches. All the YSG speakers will also be writing down feedback on each speech.

Our first two YSGers gave their second speeches!

Nathanael, our first speaker, spoke on ‘The Effects of Music.’

His topic was very well-researched. He also maintained good posture and eye contact throughout the presentation.

Next up was Charis, who shared about her favourite Bible verse.

Charis projected her voice sufficiently for the size of the room and articulated well.

After a couple of weeks of deliberation, the coaches have finally decided on Fraser's Hill as the destination for our ICC retreat in November (yay!). Coaches Dicky and Joseph had gone with their families to check out the place and updated us on the fees, accommodation, etc. They also showed us some slides. I’m rather excited about the trip and really looking forward to it!

With the Mid autumn festival drawing near, we ended the meeting with a light refreshment of mooncakes, Swiss rolls, fish balls, and more mooncakes.

What a blessed meeting!

Certainly looking forward to more meetings like this.
