Greetings!

In today's meeting, we had a new family joining us. A warm welcome to Auntie Doris and her 3 daughters Lee Xin, Lee Rui, and Lee Yuan ! We started off by introducing ourselves. Coach Joseph asked us to think of something creative for our names so that others would remember it easily. After the introduction, we were divided into three groups to discuss on the meaning of 'Global community'. This two words were taken from the ICC vision: "A global community empowering next generation Christians to influence today's culture". Each speaker shared how they viewed these two words: "global" and "community".
Some speakers shared that the global community means "having different people speaking in different cultures." or "having different smaller groups in other areas and not just a HQ in one place."

Next Eunice a.k.a. Nike shared her devotion about Substance, she shared about how we can determine a lemon by taste, sight and smell, because it had substance. Jesus had the substance of Godliness in him. He was also cultural communicator! He only knew heavenly things, but he came down to speak to a completely different culture, us, to share the Gospel.

Eunice and Coach Joseph also reenacted part of the CFC Conference, where two Communication Coaches had a humorous talk show called "Wah".

In the today's teaching session, since most of us are preparing for our persuasive speech, Speaker Eliza shared with us the 3 pillars of a speech, Logos, Ethos, and Pathos.
Logos means appeal to logic. It is used to elaborate real life events, places, and people. To reinforce our understanding of Logos, Eliza showed a TED Talk by David McCandles on Military Budget. Here we learned how he used the different statistics and ratios to illustrate the military budget. Next, we learned about "Pathos", which emphasizes the use of emotion to appeal to the hearts and minds of the audience. One way to do this is to use collective pronouns. We watched a video about how President Reagan used Pathos to appeal to the Americans after the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster in 1986.

Finally, Eliza explained to us the meaning of Ethos which is the used of credibility and moral character to appeal to the audience.  Some questions to ask ourselves such as Convince the audience why they should listen to you ? Are you qualified for this topic? Coach Joseph also shared a true story of how a corporate trainer used too much pathos and oversold of himself, he was asked to stop speaking immediately and his service was terminated. Then we watched a video about Gianna Jessen, a survivor of saline abortion. Lastly, we were asked to identify the Logos, Pathos and Ethos in Mary Fisher's speech on creating the awareness about AIDs and HIV

Then we had tea break.

After teabreak, each speaker shared their 'trailers' for their Persuasive Speech. I really can't wait for them to present their Persuasive Speeches!

Then Speaker Jonique did her limited prep
